Clash Royale: Best Mirror Decks

Hold my mirror.

Mirror is one of the most fascinating cards in Clash Royale. In addition to being so unique, it’s also pretty rare to see. Mirror isn’t the most popular card, and I think that’s largely because it’s inconsistent. But those inconsistencies have some major payoffs in the right situations. Like a glass cannon, Mirror decks can often feel very volatile. But it’s a fun card, and ultimately that’s a good enough reason to use it for me.

How to Play Mirror

Mirror is a really simple, yet complex card. How it works is the simple part. It simply copies the last card you played before you played the Mirror. For example, if you cast Fireball then play Mirror, it’ll copy Fireball. The only downside is that the elixir cost is one higher than the base card it’s copying. So Fireball would cost 5 elixir instead of 4 if I used a Mirror to play it.

The complex part is in building decks around it. Since it can effectively be any card you want, there are infinite options when choosing decks. Since the elixir cost will be higher, it’s often best not to try playing expensive cards with Mirror. While having multiple Mega Knights would be awesome, it would also probably lead to a game loss thanks to a single Hog Rider you can’t defend against. Instead, using it to copy cheap threats or defensive cards, you can force a fast-paced game and make sure you don’t get caught without your defense cards when you need them. That being said, there’s really no one right or wrong way to play Mirror since it’s so open-ended.

Skeleton Barrel + Mortar + Mirror

Cards:

  • Skeleton Barrel (Evo)
  • Mortar (Evo)
  • Musketeer (Hero)
  • Mirror
  • Fireball
  • Minions
  • Skeletons
  • Barbarian Barrel

One place where Mirror really excels is in pushing the pace. This deck features Skeleton Barrel and Mortar as the two evolutions, both of which are highly aggressive cards. Skeleton Barrel is an often-overlooked win con that can do a ton of tower damage if left undefended. The evolution essentially gives it some defense against spells, but if you don’t have it, I wouldn’t say it’s necessary. Mortar’s evolution adds a goblin to the shot, so it gains DPS this way. With how aggressive the evolutions are here, the overall deck follows suit. You have to play aggressively here, as Skeleton Barrel and Mortar both tend to chip away at towers, so you’ll need to spam them often.

For this deck’s defense, the main option is the hero Musketeer. Musketeer’s hero ability allows her to spawn a turret. This lets her counter tanks like Royal Giant which only target buildings, and also adds a ton of DPS to her defensive output. Fireball and Barbarian Barrel are two great spells that counter plenty of win cons, and then we have Minions and Skeletons as the cheap troop options.

When it comes to using Mirror in this deck, I’d recommend using it primarily for defense. Since this deck is mostly focused on aggression, having an easy way to guarantee that defensive cards like Minions and Fireball don’t get wasted is perfect. That being said, you could also use Mirror on either Skeleton Barrel or Mortar if you find a good time to do so. I do think that keeping Mirror as a defensive backup card is the best option most of the time, but it doesn’t have to be only used for that.

Wall Breakers + Mirror

Cards:

  • Wall Breakers (Evo)
  • Cannon (Evo)
  • Musketeer (Hero)
  • Knight
  • Suspicious Bush
  • Bats
  • Barbarian Barrel
  • Mirror

This deck is pretty similar to the first in that it’s highly aggressive, but the Knight as the hero changes things up drastically. Knight is really good since his ability allows him to draw the aggression of nearby troops and buildings, which clears the way for cards like Wall Breakers perfectly. Wall Breakers is one of my favorite evolutions since it’s so easily cycled and the damage is so high, so they seem like a perfect pairing with Mirror. If you find yourself against an opponent that can’t reliably defend against multiple waves of Wall Breakers, you can steal an easy win with this strategy. Cannon is the second evo, mainly since it’s so strong defensively. And since it’s cheap it doesn’t distract much from this deck’s strategy of spamming cheap threats.

In addition to Wall Breakers, this deck also has Suspicious Bush as a cheap win con. Between the Bush and all the Wall Breakers, any opponent will have an incredibly difficult time defending. Unless they have multiple buildings, you’ll surely get through with some of the damage. We also have Bats and Barbarian Barrel to counter threats the Knight can’t get to (or which need immediate answers).

Mirror is best utilized offensively here. I like using it to put a Suspicious Bush on both sides of the arena, spam Wall Breakers, or maybe to copy a defense card that I really need like Bats or Barb Barrel. This is a deck with tons of potential to get quick, flashy wins, but don’t forget to keep an eye on your opponents’ elixir. Since the defensive options are limited, you don’t want to get caught out with no elixir.

Elixir Golem + Dragons + Mirror

Cards:

  • Baby Dragon (Evo)
  • Electro Dragon (Evo)
  • Mini P.E.K.K.A. (Hero)
  • Elixir Golem
  • Battle Healer
  • Barbarian Barrel
  • Tornado
  • Mirror

This deck is a variation on the popular Elixir Golem + Dragons deck. It’s pretty simple how it works. Elixir Golem is a cheap tank that is really hard to deal with since it splits apart into multiple troops upon death (just like normal Golem). Since the Elixir Golem can’t defend himself, he needs a good team of support troops. Both evolutions for this deck are focused on supporting it. Baby Dragon speeds up the slow Elixir Golem (and also clears swarms) while Electro Dragon can chain infinite lightning when evolved, so it’s perfect to clear out anything and everything around it. Then, with Mini P.E.K.K.A. as the hero, you can make a huge push that’s nearly impossible to stop (hopefully with the Mini P.E.K.K.A. higher level than everything else thanks to his ability).

This deck also has a couple of other unique cards that help with this strategy. Battle Healer is usually only good when she can consistently get with a huge wave to heal, which this deck and do perfectly. She’ll have no shortage of allies to heal, from Elixir Golemites to the Dragons. Then Tornado also stands out here since both evolution cards do AOE damage. If you can keep the whole fight contained in a small area, the Dragons will have no problems clearing out everything around the Elixir Golem.

I’d recommend using Mirror to further support Elixir Golem. Most of the time I think that using it on one of the Dragons is the best option, unless you really need a last second Barbarian Barrel or Tornado. You could also use it to make a second Elixir Golem and surprise your opponents by switching lanes. There are a lot of options and I think this deck is the least restricted on how to use Mirror of all of them.
